The Blackberry Residence: A Transitional Renovation

Brighter, lighter, and more relaxing. Mixing the past and the future to create a cozy transitional retreat.

This home sat abandoned for 10 years, and during that period its former owners left it to deteriorate. Despite this neglect a few of the original features within the home were still intact. Elements such as millwork, the main fireplace, and even an indoor planter were able to be salvaged, however, because of the deterioration of the roof much of the home’s interior had to be replaced due to extensive water damage. This gave me an almost blank canvas to work with, and because of the homeowner's fondness for the aesthetics of both modern and transitional styles of homes we decided to remodel this home in a Transitional Style. This Transitional Style lent itself well with the midcentury and prairie style roots of the home, allowing me to introduce modern elements while also lightening the home and adding character through traditional details. You’ll notice that the color palette of the home is lighter and airer, pairing with more lighter and natural wood tones to achieve a welcoming and cheery environment.
